Adults should be able to pick up stuff like mushrooms

Ok, I have this problem about the adults not being able to pick up fruit, I dont know if its a bug or something or Im not dropping them on top of the herbs right but they wont do it. Plz help!
Help: hot rocks, and soap
You will see some white flowers under the bridge on the left of your screen, pick them until you get three of them on the table, then, put some salt water in it by going to the brown bowls next to the water fall. Then, you will also see some gray rocks next to the bridge on the left of your screen. Pick those up and they will start sitting in the fire. When the rock turns red, drag and adult to it and they will carry it to the salt water in the pot. Next put the flowers inside of the boiling pot and when the pot is empty, an adult will start stacking soap. Yay! Soap invented!
